SuperBowl Playlist: For Atlanta, from Atlanta
You think your football team’s pretty cool? I got a question for you: How many of your city’s artists have rapped about having sex on your team’s field in the middle of a game?
Oh, just Atlanta? Just Ludacris? I rest my case.
Listening to exclusively Atlanta rap in the lead up to Sunday’s Super Bowl isn’t just a fun thing to try — it’s probably the best possible use of your time. I was going to make a playlist showcasing artists from both competing cities, but that’s like comparing Florida’s oranges to Iceland’s. I don’t know what was going on in Boston when hip hop first went mainstream, but I guess Marky Mark’s “Good Vibrations” was all most of them needed to hear.
Atlanta, meanwhile, is home to some of the greatest ever (Outkast, Gucci Mane, Luda and T.I.); current innovators (Gambino, Young Thug, Future) and the number one songs in the country for most of this winter (Rae Sremmurd and Migos).
Yeah, it’s not simply enough that the A has badasses as diverse as Julio Jones, John Lewis and Samuel L. Jackson. They also have to absolutely dominate the music. If you’re not convinced, take some time to listen to this playlist.
The Atlanta Falcons: a football team that won’t let Vladimir Putin steal their Super Bowl rings. Enjoy.
