Two victims shot dead at Central Michigan University dorm, suspect still at large
Police have confirmed a gunman fatally shot two people at a residence hall at Central Michigan University Friday morning. The shooting suspect, 19-year-old James Eric Davis Jr., who is said to have shot his parents during a domestic situation, is currently at large.
The shooting took place on the fourth floor of Campbell Hall. Friday was the last day of classes before Spring Break, but all classes are canceled, and police have urged staff and students to avoid the area.
Campbell Hall is part of a residence hall complex called “The Towers” at Central Michigan. It consists mainly of freshmen, according to alumnus Chad Livengood.
The City of Mt. Pleasant Twitter account described Davis as a 5-foot-9-inches tall Black male wearing yellow jeans and a blue hoodie. They warned civilians not to approach Davis as he is considered “armed and dangerous,” but to instead call local authorities. Parents have been instructed to pick up their students for the break at an alternate location.
Police discovered Davis was sent to McLean Hospital Thursday evening for a possible drug-related related incident, stating they will have more information later in the day.
