Update: Tuesday, September 22.
A University employee died inside the Chemistry Building early Tuesday, according to the University’s Division of Public Safety and Security.
DPSS spokeswoman Diane Brown said the employee, a 57-year-old man, was discovered “in medical distress” at 3:50 a.m. A paramedic pronounced the employee dead at the scene.
The man was identified on September 22 as Lamont Smith of Ypsilanti Township according to Mlive. Smith was a custodian with the University.
Brown said Smith likely died of natural causes. DPSS will wait to close the investigation pending a medical examiner’s report — which Brown added is standard practice.
