Supporters and fans of Michigan football came out in droves Monday afternoon to express condolences after the passing of Chad Carr, the 5-year-old grandson of former Michigan coach Lloyd Carr.
Chad, who was diagnosed with brain cancer in September 2014, inspired the Wolverines and Michigan fans throughout his battle. His fans used the hashtag “#ChadTough” to voice support throughout his battle with cancer.
At the beginning of media availability Monday, Michigan basketball coach John Beilein spoke through tears to express his condolences to the Carr family, and recognize the impact Chad had on him and his team.
“It’s a sad day, and we will ensure there’s going to be some positive awareness of childhood brain cancer and what we can all do going forward,” he said.
Just over an hour after Chad’s family announced his passing, #ChadTough started trending nationally on Twitter as fans and supporters shared condolences, photos and kind words about the boy and his family.
