With a travel bag slung over his shoulder and a Michigan football helmet under his arm, University President Mark Schlissel departed Detroit Metro Airport on Wednesday for Utah in advance of Thursday’s season opener against the Utes.
Schlissel tweeted Wednesday night that this would be his first time attending a Michigan football game on the road.
Thursday’s matchup is the first for Michigan football coach Jim Harbaugh.
University spokesperson Rick Fitzgerald said Schlissel is slated to attend a tailgate with a contingent of Michigan fans headed to Utah for the occasion. He also attended a development event for donors Wednesday evening.
Schlissel will return to Ann Arbor in time for New Student Convocation on Friday.
