At this week’s Senate Assembly Committee meeting, members agreed to reduce the number of Assembly sub-committees by five.
SACUA Chair Scott Masten, a professor of business economics and public policy, introduced proposals to restructure the Senate Assembly committees, leaving the body with a total of 21 committees.
“The net effect of this proposal will be to reduce the amount of committees by five,” Masten explained.
Members approved the creation of a broader committee, the Communications and External Relations Advisory Committee, to serve as a conglomeration of three former committees: the Communications Advisory Committee, the Development Advisory Committee and the Government Relations Committee.
SACUA Vice Chair Sally Oey, a professor of astronomy, said committees were not very productive under their current arrangement.
SACUA also discussed committee reorganization at last week’s meeting.
The next Senate Assembly meeting will be March 16.
