S. Jack Hu, vice president for research at the University of Michigan, will join the University of Georgia as its next senior vice president for academic affairs and provost. Hu will start in his new position on July 1.
According to UGA Today, UGA had narrowed their search down to four finalists for the position, with Hu ultimately chosen for the role.
Hu has been a part of the University community for the past three decades, starting as a graduate student. Hu is also a faculty member of the College of Engineering as a J. Reid and Polly Anderson professor of manufacturing, professor of mechanical engineering and professor of industrial operations engineering. UMich Research congratulated Hu on Twitter and included a quote from him on his time at the University.
“The University of Michigan has been my home for the past 34 years, starting here as a graduate student, then joining the faculty in the College of Engineering and most recently leading the Office of Research,” Hu said. “I have enjoyed every moment here at U-M.”
University President Mark Schlissel also commended Hu on his work at the University in a recent tweet.
“Jack Hu is an innovative leader with an unwavering commitment to integrity and public impact,” Schlissel said. “I congratulate the (University of Georgia) community on their outstanding new provost.”
In his time at the University, Hu has led the efforts of Mcity and was elected a member of the National Academy of Engineering. The University also has remained No. 1 in research volume amongst all public universities for eight consecutive years.
