Lou Anna Simon, former Michigan State University president, will retire from MSU on Aug. 31.

Simon was charged by the Michigan Attorney General’s office last November for lying to police regarding the investigation of Larry Nassar, a convicted sex abuser and former doctor for MSU and USA Gymnastics. The office alleges Simon knew Nassar was the subject of Title IX investigations but lied to police about her knowledge of the circumstances.

Stating the scandal was “politicized” and it was “understandable” why the public was angry, Simon resigned from her position on Jan. 24.

As part of her retirement plan, Simon will receive three annual salary payments amounting to $2.45 million total, benefits and other perks. She will also hold the title as president emeritus and faculty emeritus.
