On Thursday at approximately 8 p.m., the Chi Omega sorority house caught fire. There were approximately six fire trucks along Washtenaw Avenue, leading to police closures from Hill Street to South University Avenue.

video posted by The Tab Michigan on Instagram shows intense smoke coming from the building’s north side.

Multiple sources from Chi Omega reported everyone inside the house is safe. The fire allegedly started in the basement.

Throughout the duration of the fire, the members of Chi Omega huddled in a University of Michigan Blue Bus for warmth. The cause of the fire is unknown. Fire trucks left and Washtenaw Avenue reopened at about 8:50 p.m.

The new president of Chi Omega, Riley Thompson, declined to comment.  The Daily was also unable to reach the Ann Arbor Fire Department for further information.
