Football Coach Jim Harbaugh at the University of Michigan announced he might ask former President Barack Obama and his wife Michelle Obama to be honorary captains at a fall football game.
Past honorary captains have included Michael Jordan and University alum Tom Brady, who played on the football team from 1995 to 1999.
“We’re making those asks,” Harbaugh said, in an interview with the Detroit Free Press. “Official asks. Yes we’re in the process of making an official ask. There’d been, ‘hey we’d like you to do it.’ Now the official ask.”
According to the Detroit Free Press, Harbaugh served on Michelle Obama’s education committee and got to know Barack Obama when he was in Ann Arbor last fall endorsing Presidential nominee Hilary Clinton, prior to the election.
In January, Michelle Obama thanked Harbaugh and his wife, in her last speech as First Lady in the White House, for their charitable work in education.
Harbaugh also met with the former president again just last week when he was speaking at an event in Washington D.C.
