A male student reported a first-degree sexual assault to the police last Wednesday, according to a crime alert from the University of Michigan Division of Public Safety and Security. The student reported he was walking down Fletcher Street with friends on April 11 when two other males approached him and invited him to a house party. At the party the student consumed a drink, which he was told was a soft drink mixed with alcohol.
The next day the student woke up with little to no memory of the night before and with visible injuries indicative of sexual assault. According to DPSS, the student tested positive for Benzodiazepine, a sedative he had ingested unknowingly.
The crime alert reported the assault as a first-degree sexual assault, which the State of Michigan defines as penetration including incapacitation by force or coercion of the victim.
The student reported the two college-aged male suspects as a blonde white male who went by the name of “Sam,” who was last seen wearing green basketball shoes, and a bearded black male going by the name “Darnell” last seen wearing a black jacket.
Anyone with information regarding the incident or the suspects is encouraged to contact DPSS at (734)763-1131.
