Ann Arbor was rated the second-best city to live in the U.S. by Niche.com’s 2019 list of best cities to live in America, according to an MLive report. Niche.com ranked Arlington, Va. first.

Niche also rated Ann Arbor as its top city to live in on the 2017 and 2018 lists.

The criteria for inclusion on Niche’s list includes quality of public schools, housing, crime and safety, nightlife, diversity, jobs, weather, cost of living, health and fitness, outdoor activities and commute. Ann Arbor received an A+ rating in being good for families, public education, and nightlife. The city received its lowest grade of a C for weather. Overall, Ann Arbor received an A+ rating.

Ann Arbor’s cost of living also earned it a C+, one of the city’s lowest ratings. The median value for a home in Ann Arbor is $374,000, as compared to the nationwide median of $225,300.

In January, the University of Michigan’s Central Student Government released a housing survey that found that the average monthly rent for students living off-campus is $832. The report also concluded that students are generally dissatisfied with the off-campus housing search process.
