A University of Michigan employee was struck in the back of the head Thursday afternoon around 1 p.m. by an unknown assailant, according to a University Division of Public Safety and Security crime alert released early Saturday morning.

The incident — which was reported to the Ann Arbor Police Department Friday night — occurred on the 300 block of S State St. The employee reported she had been walking down the street, south of E. Liberty St., when she was struck by another pedestrian, who did not say anything and continued to walk down the street. The hit resulted in an injury, though the crime alert did not specify whether medical treatment was being sought out by the victim.

The suspect was described as a white male between 20 and 30 years old. Other details outlined in the crime alert were also the man’s dark hair and beard, and estimated height between 5’8” and 5’10”. He was wearing a red coat with a hood.

News of the incident follows alerts regarding an unarmed robbery that occurred early Friday morning, as well as a series of incidents that occurred early Wednesday morning, including two robberies at gunpoint and one incident in which a female was being followed in her car. As of Friday night, neither AAPD or DPSS have announced finding any of the suspects.

DPSS spokeswoman Diane Brown said she could not comment on a possible motive of the assailant.
