The University of Michigan Division of Public Safety and Security reported that the Ann Arbor Police received an alert of a home invasion on the 1000 block of East Ann Street at approximately 10:15 a.m.

An unknown male entered the home through an unlocked door but ran out of the house without taking any belongings when the person who reported the incident arrived at the location.

In an email released by DPSS, the suspect was described as a “Black male, early to mid 20’s, 5’8″ – 6’1″, goatee or beard, last seen wearing a large heavy black Carhartt coat and blue jeans.”

Sergeant Patrick Maguire of the Ann Arbor Police Department said it is important for everyone to always lock doors and stow significant items to prevent invasions.

“At this point, we are still investigating and following up on leads …” Maguire said. “We always remind and encourage everyone to make sure they lock up their valuables and keep their doors locked even when they’re home so we don’t have things like this in the future.”
