The Ann Arbor Police Department has identified the man who carried out an armed carjacking early Friday morning on the 600 block of East Washington Street, as 17 year old Zachary Scott according to a crime alert sent out by the University of Michigan Division of Public Safety and Security.
Scott has been arrested for carjacking, armed robbery, felony firearm, possession of stolen vehicle and felony for resisting and obstructing a police officer. Scott is currently at the Washtenaw County Jail with a bond set at $100,000.
Scott had been seen concealing a handgun while riding a bus. A staff member from the Blake Transit Center alerted the Ann Arbor Police Department who recovered a black airsoft gun from Scott’s waistband.
Although a struggle ensued between the officer and Scott, no injuries occurred. Following the arrest, two additional air soft pistols and a mask were found on Scott. Detectives believe Scott came specifically Ann Arbor to commit the crimes.
The victim, the alert reads, was sitting in a parked car near South Division Street when the suspect opened the passenger door, brandished a handgun and demanded the vehicle. When the victim jumped out, the suspect proceeded to drive the car for a “short distance” before crashing it. He then fled the scene on foot.
