On Thursday, the University of Michigan Division of Public Safety and Security canceled an aggravated assault crime alert that was issued on Jan. 27.
The cancelation stated the suspect “has been identified and was arrested for a different incident.”
DPSS spokeswoman Diane Brown stated the suspect was arrested after being connected to an incident that took place the following night, in which a woman was pushed in the West Hall arch.
“A woman reported on Jan. 28 that she was pushed while walking through the West Hall arch, and the description of the man matched the one in the earlier crime alert,” Brown said. “There was an investigation that took place by the University Police, and on Tuesday the 31st, he was identified by University Police and was arrested. Through that investigation, it was determined that he was possibly connected to the crime alert and so that information was shared with the Ann Arbor police.”
According to the initial crime alert, the victim, a University employee, was struck on the head by an unknown assailant around 1 p.m. The suspect was described as a white male between 20 and 30 years old with dark hair and beard and an estimated height between 5 feet eight inches and 5 feet 10 inches.
The assault resulted in an unspecified injury.
As of the time of publication, the Ann Arbor Police Department was unavailable for comment.
