Early Tuesday morning, a motor vehicle theft and attempted armed robbery took place on Dewey Avenue and the corner of Packard Street and Greenwood Avenue respectively. According to a press release from the University of Michigan’s Division of Public Safety and Security, both incidents took place around 12:40 a.m.

A University student was near Packard and McKinley Avenue when two suspects claiming to be armed approached her and asked for her property. One suspect, described as a young male wearing black sweatshirt and sweatpants, did not take any possessions from the student after she ran away.

An empty and running vehicle on Dewey was reported stolen shortly after the attempted armed robbery.

Sergeant Shane Dennis, a spokesman for the Ann Arbor Police Department, said the investigations into the incidents are still ongoing and show no correlation between the two crimes.

“I can’t say the two are connected,” Dennis said. “They happened relatively close to each other and close in time, but we really can’t say much else at this point.”
