Two aggravated assaults were reported near the University of Michigan campus Saturday.

According to the Ann Arbor Police Department, the first assault occurred in the Starbucks at the corner of State and Liberty streets at approximately 8:56 p.m. An unknown man hit the victim on the back of the head with a chair.

The second assault occurred in West Park on Chapin Street at approximately 10:20 p.m. The victim was walking through the park when an unidentified man approached the student and began punching her more than 15 times.

According to the Crime Alert, both of the incidents were unprovoked and the perpetrator had no known connection to the victims.

Reportedly, a witness described the suspect as “(a) Black male, late 20’s, 5’10″, clean shaven, last seen wearing a grey coat or hoodie and khaki hat.”

AAPD does not currently know whether the perpetrator is the same for both assaults, but they are actively investigating the incidents.
