Pancheros will kick off the new school year with a promotion aimed at lessening the stress of classes. On Sept. 12 from 2-4 p.m. the restaurant will be offering one-dollar burritos for students to enjoy.
Rodney Anderson, president of Pancheros Mexican Grill, said the goal of the annual event is to welcome students back to school and lessen stress.
“Every year, when University of Michigan students return to school in the fall, we welcome them back to campus with $1 burritos at our Ann Arbor location,” Anderson said. “We know going back to school can be emotional and challenging, so what’s better than a dollar burrito to ease that transition?”
Business sophomore James Bargmann said he was excited for the event.
“Let me put it this way: if I had to eat one food every day for the rest of my life, it would be a burrito,” Bargmann said. “I am planning to go to Pancheros One Dollar Burrito Day.”
In addition to burritos, Pancheros merchandise will also be available in honor of both Dollar Burrito Day and the brand’s 25th anniversary. T-shirts, sunglasses, keychains and bottle openers will all be available.
LSA sophomore Annalise Guitar thinks cheap burritos could boost student morale.
“I think it will because food is good emotional support, and we’re all poor, so I think it’s a great idea,” Guitar said. “On a scale of one to ten, I’d definitely give burritos an eight.”
Dollar Burrito Day has been a hit since the restaurant opened in August 1994. According to Anderson, each year brings a barrage of students and a line out of the door.
“We sincerely appreciate the support we’ve received from the Ann Arbor community over the last 23 years,” Anderson said. “This annual Dollar Burrito Day is our fun way to kick off another academic year with the Wolverines – both returning students and those that are new to campus.”
