Amid a Super Bowl performance and the announcement of her world tour, Beyonce has found time for the children of Flint.
Queen B announced today she will hold a benefit to raise funds for children in Flint as part of her Formation World Tour, according to a statement on Live Nation Entertainment’s website.
“True to her life’s work of always giving back, fans will be given the opportunity to participate in Beyoncé’s #BeyGOOD initiative supporting local United Way programs and the continued work surrounding the water crisis in Flint, Michigan,” the statement says.
The announcement comes a day after Beyonce debuted her new single Formation during the halftime show of Super Bowl 50.
After Flint switched its water supply to the Flint River in April 2014, the water was contaminated with lead for multiple months due to leakages from corroded water pipes. Flint officials, Gov. Rick Snyder (R ) and President Barack Obama have since declared a state of emergency in the city. The crisis has spurred health concerns and has garnered national outrage, with protests calling for Snyder’s resignation for allegedly mishandling the situation.
According to the statement, Beyoncé will partner with United Way and the Community Foundation of Greater Flint to raise funds aimed at addressing long term impacts of the water crisis such as education, nutrition and health.
The artist has joined the ranks of other celebrities that have pledged to aid residents impacted by the water crisis including P. Diddy, Mark Wahlberg and Cher.
