ArborBLU, a largely student-occupied apartment building on Church Street in Ann Arbor, announced that one of its residents tested positive for COVID-19 Sunday night.
“Today we have been made aware of a resident with a presumptive positive Covid-19 virus at Sterling ArborBLU,” managers announced in an email to tenants Sunday night. “With the health and well-being of our residents, staff and each of our families this letter will address our plans and recommendations regarding dealing with this situation.”
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, presumptive positive cases refer to individuals who tested positive for the virus that causes COVID-19 at a local or state lab.
ArborBLU management did not reply immediately to request for comment. The email proceeded to list several ways to prevent the spread of the virus, per the Washtenaw County Health Department. Among the suggestions were practicing social distancing, monitoring potential symptoms and moving into self-isolation if symptoms like those of the coronavirus develop.
According to the email, ArborBLU management said they believe the tenant was largely outside of the apartment building before the diagnosis and was unlikely to have transmitted the virus to others in the complex.
“We have been informed this resident has had limited access to the building while they were considered contagious,” the email reads. “There are additional members of the particular apartment unit household considered to be low risk to transmitting the virus, at this time.”
The case announced in ArborBLU adds to the cases already confirmed in Ann Arbor and Washtenaw County, among them a resident of Vic Village-North, another student apartment building on campus.
On Friday afternoon, University of Michigan President Mark Schlissel announced that a member of the University community had tested positive for COVID-19. That individual is self-isolating in Ann Arbor, and it is uncertain whether any of the reported cases are the same.
