Two semi-trucks collided around 4:30 a.m. Monday morning on Eastbound M-14 near Barton Drive in Ann Arbor.

Michigan State Police reported one truck was in need of assistance when another carrying auto parts lost control and crashed into it. The second truck rolled over and burst into flames, killing the driver trapped inside.

According to a press release sent by Shanon Banner, MSP public affairs manager, MSP Motor Carrier Officers could not reach the second semi-truck’s cab.

“MSP Motor Carrier Officers were not able to make it to the cab of the second semi-truck, as it was fully engulfed in flames, on its side and blocking all lanes of traffic,” the press release said. “The driver is deceased and the identity is not known at this time. The driver of the first semi-truck sustained minor injuries.”

Washtenaw County’s Hazmat Team was called after the truck’s 200 gallon fuel tank ruptured and leaked diesel fuel into the Huron River. Booms have been set up to trap the gasoline and remove it from the river.

M-14 was closed until around 5 p.m. on Monday due to the cleanup.
