As tax season begins, University students test their knowledge on taxes and express their opinions on how U.S. education has prepared them for being financially independent in the real world. While the legal adult age is 18, young adults and college students across the country have a wide range of knowledge and awareness about finances, ranging from already filing their taxes at the age of 18 to not understanding the tax system at all. For reasons from relieving transitional anxiety, to having the knowledge to help apply for financial aid, to simply having the awareness of where one’s money is going, it is important for students to learn how to succeed outside of the classroom in practical ways — and for the University to better furnish that knowledge.
