One night before Michigan fans stood stunned with disbelief as Michigan State defeated Michigan 27-23 on the final play, the staff of The Michigan Daily stormed Elbel Field after winning their eleventh straight touch football game against The State News. Each year on the eve of the official rivalry game, the Daily and State News hit the gridiron to play a rivalry game of their own. After dominating the series for the past decade, the Daily came into the game with high hopes to continue the streak. Tempers flared and emotions ran high throughout the game, but confrontations were minimal and were kept under control, an astounding feat considering the game was held without any referees. Managing Sports Editors Jake Lourim and Max Cohen coached the Daily to an 8-4 victory.
