Michigan suffered its first Big Ten loss on the road at Purdue.

The Wolverines played each of their four big men in an attempt to combat the 20th-ranked Boilermakers’ size, but Purdue’s frontcourt proved too much to handle, as Michigan fell, 87-70.

Two years ago the Purdue men’s basketball team ended with a 15-17 record and finished dead last in the Big Ten standings. This year, 11th-year coach Matt Painter leads a Boilermaker squad fresh off its first NCAA Tournament appearance since 2012.

Caris LeVert is questionable for Thursday's game at Purdue with a lower left leg injury.

It’s the Michigan men’s basketball team’s second visit of the year to a team ranked in the top 25, and the first one — an 82-58 shellacking at the hands of then-No. 19 Southern Methodist — left plenty of room for improvement.

Illinois coach John Groce has plenty of homegrown talent on his roster.
Last season, the Michigan men’s basketball team faced Illinois three times, with two games needing overtime. The Wolverines came out victorious twice, including once in the Big Ten Tournament, and the matchup may tilt even more in their favor this season.
