Asked about his connection to the football program, Manuel spoke fondly about his playing career, during which he was on a team with coach Jim Harbaugh for one season.
Hutchins, who has held her current position since 1985, has worked with eight different athletic directors throughout her coaching career.
Manuel has previously served as athletic director at both Buffalo and UConn, with success at both universities.
After taking over in a time of turmoil between the Athletic Department and the wider student body, Hackett seems to have begun bridging the divide.
Friday, the school will announce Warde Manuel as the new athletic director after he held the same position at Connecticut for almost four years and at Buffalo for six and a half before that.
Hackett returned to his alma mater at a time of relative instability and will leave the department in better shape than he found it.
Manuel will replace interim Athletic Director Jim Hackett, who has held the post since Dave Brandon’s resignation in October 2014.
