Friday morning at 2:20 a.m., an armed man wielding a black handgun robbed a female student at the intersection of Prospect and Wells St., according to a crime alert from the University's Division of Public Safety and Security.
“As told to the Ann Arbor Police, a student pedestrian was approached by a man who brandished a black handgun and demanded her property.” the crime alert states. “She gave him her purse and the man ran west toward Packard St. She was not injured.”
According to a press release from the Ann Arbor Police Department, the woman, who was described as a 32 year old Ann Arbor resident, was told by the armed man to “Give me everything!”
“The reported victim gave the (robber) her purse that contained a cell phone, cash, various credit cards and forms of identification.” the press release states. “The suspect then ran toward Packard Rd. Officers recovered the victim’s cell phone a short distance away.”
Minutes later, when the victim returned home, she used her roommate’s phone to call 911. Police arrived at her residence 2 minutes later, according to the press release.
While the armed man’s identity remains unknown, according to the press release, detectives are working to find and arrest the robber.
“The reported description of the suspect is a (black male), 25 years old 5’10” with a medium build wearing a dark colored jacket with a hood,” the press release states. “Detectives are working to develop a composite sketch of the suspect.”
The Ann Arbor Police Department could not give further comment at this time.
