At the Michigan hockey team’s year-end banquet today, Wolverine coach Red Berenson officially announced that rising senior defenseman Chris Summers will be the team’s captain next season.

Earlier this week, the Daily hockey writers sat down with Berenson to talk. Berenson seemed very optimistic that Summers would likely return for his senior season.

Summers, who became Michigan’s acting captain after defenseman Mark Mitera sustained a serious knee injury in the season-opening game on Oct. 10, wore a ‘C’ on his jersey for most of this past season. He’ll likely be very comfortable with the required duties next year after a season spent handling referees, teammates and the media.
