The NCAA confirmed today that the postseason ban on the Michigan men's basketball team has been reversed.
A press release from the Michigan athletic department this afternoon announced that the Wolverines will be eligible for the 2003-04 NCAA and NIT tournaments.
"This is a tremendously positive day for the University of Michigan and our basketball program," Michigan coach Tommy Amaker said in a statement. "We are so appreciative of the news we received today."
Michigan had appealed the postseason ban at an Aug. 17 meeting with the NCAA Infractions Committee. In justifying its decision, the committee pointed out in its statement that "(Michigan's) extraordinary efforts transcended ''cooperation' and strongly mitigate against imposition of the second year of the postseason ban."
