Amid a strained campus environment following the election of President-elect Donald Trump Tuesday, a new Twitter account under the name “UMich Trump Reports” has emerged and quickly gained popularity.
Tensions have been high at the University of Michigan campus after Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton, favored on campus according to polling done by The Michigan Daily, lost the presidency. On Wednesday, the Rock — a landmark on campus situated at the corner of Hill Street and Washtenaw Avenue, was painted with the phrases “kill em all” and “fuck America.” At a vigil Wednesday evening, students expressed grief and fear over Trump’s win.
According to the account’s bio, the Twitter was established so that students could report cases of intimidation by Trump supporters.
“If you see Trump supporters harassing others, call them out so people can be aware,” the bio reads.
The account currently has 385 followers and has published seven tweets, two of which are specific to the University. Both are anonymous.
