In an email sent to students Wednesday afternoon, Tilly Shames, executive director of Hillel at the University of Michigan, shared the news of the death of Business sophomore Ezra Seegull earlier this week.

“Ezra was a dear friend to so many in our Hillel community, co-leader of the Hillel Outdoor Adventure group, participant in the 2018 Freshmen Retreat and a part of the 2019 Freshman Retreat leadership and planning team,” Shames wrote.

The campus organization also released a statement Thursday, notifying the student body of Seegull’s passing.

“Many of you knew him as a thoughtful, interested student, with a passion for the outdoors and business consulting, and a great sense of humor and smile,” the statement read. “We know that many in our community and across campus, in particular those from Ezra’s Beth T’filoh community in Baltimore, join our Hillel staff team in mourning this tragic loss.”

The University’s Hillel held a memorial service for Seegull’s friends and others impacted by his passing Thursday at 6:15 p.m. and will have CAPS counselors present during the weekend.
