He doesn’t even go here — yet.
But Kevin Lohan, a defenseman with the Merritt Centennials of the British Columbia Hockey League, committed to play for coach Red Berenson and the Michigan hockey team on Wednesday.
Lohan, who is the cousin of actress Lindsay Lohan, cited Michigan’s storied hockey program and prestigious academics as factors in his decision to give a verbal commitment.
Luke Pierce, general manager and head coach of the Centennials, said Lohan caught the Wolverines’ attention with an impressive season this year. In 40 games, Lohan has racked up 14 points, including two game-winning goals.
“He’s been a bit of a surprise for us this season,” Pierce said. “But he’s the complete package.”
In a phone interview with The Michigan Daily, Lohan said that it’s yet to be decided which year he will join the Wolverines. Depending on his development in Merritt, as well as any possible defections from the Michigan program, Lohan will enroll for either the 2013-14 or 2014-15 season.
