Over spring break, Hill Auditorium hosted Emanuel Ax, Leonidas Kavakos and Yo-Yo Ma as they performed three of Beethoven’s pieces for orchestral trio. 

Occasional events throughout the UMS season result in lines that reach the sidewalks outside of the building, and this was one of them. Hill Auditorium was sold out, despite the placement of this event during spring break. In fact, with students gone for break, more space was available for the greater Ann Arbor community, and they certainly showed up.

This past Wednesday, the University Philharmonia Orchestra hosted “An Evening of World Premieres” at the School of Music, Theatre & Dance, a tradition of the students of composition. In this annual performance, undergraduate or master’s students present their original orchestral pieces at Hill Auditorium. These students are talented musicians and skilled composers, and their expertise shines through in this high-stakes context.

University Symphony Orchestra recently hosted their first performance of 2020 at Hill Auditorium. Conducted by School of Music, Theatre & Dance faculty Kenneth Kiesler and composed of University students, the group is an elegant portrayal of the musical talent of both the student body and the faculty who guide them.
