On Monday evening, Maia and Alex Shibutani— University of Michigan alums affectionately known as the “Shib Sibs”— won a bronze medal in the ice dancing competition at the 2018 Winter Olympics in PyeongChang, marking the 168th medal won on the Olympic stage by a University of Michigan Wolverine.

A three-year pilot program designed to address the needs of Henry Ford College transfer students who wish to study humanities at the University of Michigan will begin as early as this summer, thanks to a $1.6 million grant fund from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation.

While Scott DeRue, dean of Ross School of Business, has flown across the globe to host alumni gatherings known as “Ross Talks,” on Thursday night he only had to take the elevator to the sixth floor of the Ross School of Business.

Ross Talks, all of which are moderated by DeRue, are designed to offer alumni, current students and prospective students a forum in which to network and engage with panel discussions. The Ann Arbor event is one stop on a 18-city lineup the Business School has planned for the calendar year.

When Dr. Sij Hemal, a University of Michigan alum, boarded a plane on Dec. 17 in Paris headed to New York, he planned to watch the thriller “Side Effects” while sipping a glass of champagne before dozing off.

But Hemal was unable to indulge in his plan due to an unexpected request from the flight attendant asking if any doctors were on board.
