Each fall at the University of Michigan, people representing different student organizations fill the Diag and Ingalls Mall, waving flyers at frantic freshmen to recruit them. This hectic, classic phenomenon is Festifall — and this year, due to COVID-19, it’s online.
The University of Michigan International Institute presented the Conference on Migration, attended by about 50 members of the University community, on Monday at Weiser Hall. The conference consisted of interdisciplinary dialogue driven by presentations from local and international scholars.
The University of Michigan’s Residential College hosted a talk in East Quadrangle Residence Hall on Monday with Catherine Badgley, director of the RC and head of the Science, Technology and Society program. The RC is a multidisciplinary liberal arts program within the College of LSA and is one of LSA’s Michigan Learning Communities.
The event facilitated conversations about building community, increasing diversity and exploring the identity of the RC. About 10 members of the RC community attended the event, including students, faculty and staff.
The Osher Lifelong Learning Institute hosted a talk by Professor Jeffrey Bernstein titled “The 2020 Democratic Nomination: Who Gets to Choose, the Parties or the Voters?” on Wednesday at the Kellogg Eye Center auditorium. The event was attended by more than 100 members of the University of Michigan community.
Dave Barger, co-founder of JetBlue Airways and University of Michigan alum, spoke at an event hosted by the Barger Leadership Institute as part of its “BLI Dinner With” series. Barger spoke to a crowd of about 15 students about leadership potential and opportunities for career growth on Friday at Mani Osteria and Bar.
The University of Michigan’s chapter of College Republicans discussed Iran-United States relations at a meeting in the Michigan League on Tuesday. About 25 students and members of the University community attended the event, as well as board members of the organization.
LSA sophomore Max Resnick, treasurer of College Republicans and Kathy Zhu, vice chair of College Republicans and LSA senior, gave a presentation on recent events in Iran.
