On May 13, 2019, the day John Beilein announced he would leave Michigan basketball for the Cleveland Cavaliers, athletic director Warde Manuel was asked if he had discussed a contract extension with Jim Harbaugh.
“I’m not going to announce any conversations I’ve had with Jim about his contract or whatever,” Manuel said that day.
Jim Harbaugh, for now, put an end to rumors of his imminent departure. A month after Michigan’s season officially ended, Harbaugh put pen to paper on a four-year, $20 million contract extension on Friday that will see him remain in Ann Arbor for the foreseeable future.
Jim Harbaugh and Michigan are close to signing a five-year contract extension with a base salary of $4 million annually, according to a source. The source spoke anonymously since they were not authorized to publicly comment on the situation.
Baltimore Ravens linebacker coach Mike Macdonald will become Michigan’s defensive coordinator following the Ravens’ playoff run. Michigan officially confirmed the move Jan. 17 after the Ravens were eliminated from the playoffs. The news was originally reported by NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.
Michigan’s 2021 defense took a hit on Tuesday afternoon, as redshirt sophomore linebacker Cameron McGrone announced via Twitter that he will enter the 2021 NFL Draft.

The lesson of defensive coordinator Don Brown’s tenure isn’t to solve your problems with aggression. Nor is it to play zone coverage or rush four on every play. It’s much, much more basic.
