Penn State defeated Michigan 42-13 at Beaver Stadium Saturday.

All week, Michigan’s vaunted defense was billed as a potential roadblock for one of the nation’s most electric players. Saquon Barkley stomped all over that notion on the second play from scrimmage.

Saturday, October 21, 2017 - 8:42pm
Penn State is up 21-13 over Michigan at the half.

Saquon Barkley took the direct snap, cut away from the teeth of the defense and ran off into the night.

And that was just the second play of the game.

In what was billed as a fight between two heavyweight contenders, No. 2 Penn State wasted no time in hitting No. 19 Michigan in the mouth —  and continued doing so all night long.

The Michigan football team will be tasked with stopping Heisman candidate Saquon Barkley on Saturday.

The Michigan Daily spoke with Jill Beckman of The Daily Collegian and Philly Inquirer ahead of this week’s game about Barkley, Penn State’s defense and what it will take for the Wolverines to pull off an upset.

Fifth-year senior defensive tackle Maurice Hurst believes his team’s defense has yet to reach its full potential.

Hurst’s history against the Nittany Lions — coupled with his play this year — makes it all the more likely that he’ll enjoy success in his final game against Penn State on Saturday night.

Fifth-year senior quarterback John O'Korn has averaged just 4.65 yards per attempt in the last two weeks.

After Saturday, Michigan knows what it has from its starter. And if the performance against Indiana was it, there’s no sense in not checking what else is there.

Thursday, October 12, 2017 - 5:02pm
Fifth-year senior quarterback Richard Lagow has struggled in 2017, throwing three interceptions before Peyton Ramsey took over as the starter.

The Daily spoke with Lagow at Big Ten Media Days in July about playing in former Michigan offensive coordinator Mike DeBord’s scheme this year, his long-winding journey to Indiana and facing Michigan’s top-ranked defense.

Sophomore Chris Evans and the rest of the running backs have been working on tightening up ball security.

Still smarting from a 14-10 loss to Michigan State on Saturday night, Michigan set out to correct issues in its run game.

Monday, October 9, 2017 - 6:59pm
Fifth-year senior center Patrick Kugler admitted that the offense needs to play much better very soon.

Michigan, quite simply, has some soul-searching to do on offense after an abysmal performance Saturday in a 14-10 loss to Michigan State.

Sunday, October 8, 2017 - 12:41am
Fifth-year senior John O'Korn quarterbacked an offense that didn't do nearly enough to win Saturday night, despite another lights-out showing from the defensive unit.

Saturday night's Herculean performance wasn’t enough, because as absurdly good as Michigan’s defense was, the offense simply could not execute.

Senior linebacker Chris Frey made it clear he wants to end his career with another championship.

The Daily spoke with Frey at Big Ten Media Days in July to discuss his team’s turnaround, the development of younger players and whether there were any structural changes made to Michigan State’s defense.
