Michigan soccer coach Chaka Daley doubled down on the coalition’s focus on voting — also tied to the Big Ten’s voter registration committee — citing it as one of the “tangible” results spoken of in the statement about the goal of the coalition. The coalition’s strategy in implementing those results has been through teaching and accessibility of registration.

Very few Michigan athletics figures have made political donations.

Any individual can donate an amount of their choosing up to a government-mandated limit either directly to campaigns, to PACs or to Super PACs. This is an individual’s right as a U.S. citizen, so, the University of Michigan does not infringe on that ability, and neither does the athletic department.

Politics and sports aren’t separate.

As much as you might want them to be, they aren’t. They never have been and never will be. As long as athletics draw in millions of viewers nationwide of all political persuasions, both politicians and athletes will use it as a platform to push their respective agendas.

Which essentially just echoed what he said in the statement put out by the Big Ten today:

Despite its revenue gains, the fall football season needs to be canceled.

The Big Ten needs to come to its senses. College sports, put simply, are unsafe. Blame it on whoever or whatever you want —  universities, conferences, individuals, state governments, the federal government, testing, China, the Swamp, anything — but don’t pretend like holding fall sports right now is a good idea.

Now yes, if you were thinking that some sports have returned safely and are thriving, you’re right. But those professional leagues have at least one of two things that collegiate athletics don’t.
