Another weekend, another sweep. On Sunday, the No. 7 Michigan water polo team rallied in the last quarter to capture a come-from-behind victory against No. 18 Princeton, 12-10.

The start of a water polo game is moments away. You’re treading water at the lane line with your teammates, head back and feet pointed toward the center of the pool where the ball will be dropped. Breathing as fully as you can, you clear your mind.

When Michigan coach Matt Anderson gathered the women’s water polo team before Saturday’s game, he meant only to reiterate that losing wasn’t an option.

After the match, Michigan coach Ronni Bernstein couldn’t help but be pleased. The No. 5 Michigan women’s tennis team routed South Florida, 7-0, at the Varsity Tennis Center on Friday. The Wolverines’ fourth shutout of the season was a welcome reprieve given the team’s recent road struggles in Florida and North Carolina.

The Hoosiers and Michigan are rivals only in water polo ⎯ they’re the lone Big Ten programs at the varsity level ⎯ but Anderson takes it as seriously as any. He doesn’t allow the color red to be worn on the pool deck. He refers to Indiana as “that school down south.” He has the date circled on the calendar, and it’s the only game on the schedule he ever knows off the top of his head.

The winningest program in the modern era of college water polo doesn’t have much of a postseason résumé. Michigan boasts the winningest women’s water polo program. If it wins out this weekend at the Wolverine Invitational Tournament, it will become the first team in the modern era of college water polo to reach 300 wins.

The No. 8 Michigan women’s gymnastics team overcame harsh judging and a shaky bar performance to rack up 196.275 points, its second-highest home score of the season, during Saturday’s dual against No. 3 Oklahoma.

For Friday’s Fan Appreciation Day at the Varsity Tennis Center, No. 5 Michigan treated its loyal supporters to a thorough 6-1 shellacking of Michigan State and free pizza.

To all opposing teams that won’t know until game time which of the two starting Michigan water polo goalkeepers they’re going to have to face: Don’t feel too bad. Morgan Turner won’t know either.
