You’re American but you’re too Black.

You’re Black but you’re too African.

You’re African but you’re too dark.

I’m sick of being told what I am and what I am not.

You say I’m too much of that but not enough of this,

Just because my looks don’t fit your stereotyped definition of what I should be.

Who are you to tell me who I should be?

Whoever gave you the right to put me in a box, anyway?

I saw this tweet today.

“a young Black man was LYNCHED. yes, in America. yes, in 2018. yes, for real. no, it wasn’t covered by the media. no, it’s not trending on Twitter. no, it wasn’t an accident. SAY HIS NAME: DANYE JONES. SAY HIS NAME: DANYE JONES. SAY HIS NAME: DANYE JONES.”

Muslims are constantly in the media but rarely for good reason. Muslims are often called terrorists or accused of oppressing women. They are rarely spoken of as regular people going about their daily lives.

Excerpt from piece

On Oct. 30, 2018, the Office of the President of the University of Michigan solicited a group of student leaders for a meeting. In my capacity as a communication liaison for the newly formed collective Direct Action for Palestine, which organized the graduate student letter which was presented to the Office of the President and Office of the Interim Dean of LSA, I was tasked with presenting the following list of demands to University President Mark Schlissel. Additionally, a copy of the demands was shared with E.

The prosperity of the modern National Football League in the U.S. is aided by white supremacy, i.e., the marginalization, commoditization and exploitation of the Black body.

I was recently at an open mic night for LGBTQ folks to tell their coming out stories. I was pleasantly surprised to find that, for a predominately white institution like the University of Michigan, the speakers and audience were both of a surprisingly multiracial composition. This pleasant feeling was unfortunately soon to leave me. Speaker after speaker told their narratives, some of which were heart-wrenching, some of which were inspiring, most were both.

The “Model Minority” and Racial Triangulation Theory

The “Model Minority” myth is a myth that upholds and maintains whiteness as the standard of what is “good” and “acceptable.”

Essentially, because Asian Americans act as white people think a “model minority” should act, they are cast with the name model minority, which still relegates Asian Americans to a status below, but almost as good as whites.

Many Asian people have a role in propagating anti-Blackness and racism as well.

Classroom Etiquette

“Devil’s Advocate” and “All sides of the argument”

Chad, nobody wants to hear you say, “Well, if I was a slave owner, I would be mad my property is gone too!”

Devil’s advocate can be used as a tool to know what traditionally racist and bigoted people would say.

But please don’t say “If I were” to things and then say a sentiment of things that are vehemently repulsive, or actively threatens the livelihood of people of color.

Microaggressions: Compliments and Comments

Microaggressions, also known as the shit white people have been doing for years but until recently, we never had a name for it!

Microaggressions are not an exaggeration of liberal feelings.

They are an insidious and pervasive part of American culture that repeatedly denigrate the efforts and strides of people of color and women toward equity.

College enrollment by race/ethnicity

The University of Michigan just scored an “F” on racial equity in a public university study.
