The End — The Doors

This has been quite the journey for my mom and me, who is probably the only person to keep reading this column. We’ve been through a lot — public embarrassment, self-deprecating humor, the whole nine yards. But seeing as the semester is almost over and I have wasted space in the Statement with these extended diatribes for a whole year, I’ve decided this will be the last Soundtracking column in the paper.

An unknown man reportedly pushed a pedestrian in a parking lot outside the Kellogg Eye Center on Wall Street, according to a crime alert from the University of Michigan’s Division of Public Safety and Security.

According to the crime alert, the suspect was riding a bicycle when he approached two pedestrians in the parking lot. He aggressively pushed one of the pedestrians and rode off on his bicycle after the encounter.

The University of Michigan Board of Regents voted to remove the name of the C.C. Little Science Building Thursday afternoon.

The  Lecturers’ Employee Organization filled the room of The University of Michigan Board of Regents March meeting,  as the board voted to remove the names of the C.C. Little Science Building and West Quad Residence Hall’s Winchell House on Thursday afternoon. Before the meeting, LEO hosted a grade-in with around 75 lecturers packing the lobby of the Michigan Union and their assembly did not go unnoticed, with several regents responding to their calls for higher wages and greater benefits during the meeting.

The Michigan Daily and University President Mark Schlissel met Monday afternoon to discuss the University of Michigan’s role in responding to national movements concerning sexual misconduct and gun violence.

In a formal request to the University of Michigan’s Board of Regents Monday morning, University President Mark Schlissel called for the renaming of the C.C. Little Science Building after months of protests against the former University president’s history of eugenics research and involvement in the tobacco industry.

The University of Michigan’s College of Literature, Science and the Arts sent an email Monday to prospective transfer students congratulating them on their acceptance to the University and inviting them to LSA’s Transfer Student Days in April. While normally a moment of celebration for most students, the email was met with confusion and questions — students who received the email had not heard back in an official capacity from a University office in regards to their admission status at the time of LSA’s email.

A University of Michigan student was assaulted Sunday night on East William Street, according to the Ann Arbor Police Department. The attacker has not been found and is reportedly a 6-foot-tall Black male who was wearing a dark jacket, red hat and hooded sweatshirt at the time of the attack.

With more than 465,000 Syrian lives lost in the conflict, University of Michigan and Ann Arbor activists are struggling to center the conflict at the local level while suffering unfolds overseas.

Following the bombings in Eastern Ghouta last month which, according to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, have taken the lives of 654 civilians in the past two weeks, the war in Syria will reach its eighth year on March 15.
