In practice Friday, Michigan didn’t make a single one of its penalty kicks. Luckily for the Wolverines, Sunday was a new day.
As the clocked ticked down Tuesday, the players joined together on the field, smiling ear to ear and exchanging handshakes and hugs.
The group of supporters was started in 2010 with the intention of unifying students at Michigan who love the Wolverines’ soccer program.
Coming in off a recent run of success — 2-0-1 in its last three matches — Michigan hoped to add a signature win to a season largely devoid of them.
The Wolverines' camaraderie has also led to a widespread distribution of goals throughout the season.
The Wolverines defeated Detroit on Wednesday night, 2-0, to conquer their first win since Halloween last year.
The loss, which sent the Wolverines to 0-5-3 on the season, was microcosmic of the season to date: close, just not close enough.
