The Michigan rowing team's 1V4 boat claimed the Wolverines' only victory this weekend.

The closest race of the day was in the 2V8 category. While Michigan was solidly in second place for most of the race, the Buckeyes became a threat in the final 750 meters. Powering through the sprint, Ohio State ended the race in a photo finish with the Huskies coming in first. The Wolverines edged out the Buckeyes by 0.08 seconds to claim second.

Senior second baseman Faith Canfield helped the Michigan softball team to a series sweep at Illinois despite the Wolverines' lackluster pitching.

Any good team needs players to step up when others aren’t at their best.

The No. 22 Michigan softball team (33-11 overall, 15-1 Big Ten) proved its mettle this weekend, coming out ahead in all three contests against Illinois (27-17, 6-9) this weekend despite uncharacteristically poor pitching.

Senior catcher Katie Alexander is tied for the Wolverines' lead in home runs, providing an important power dimension for Michigan's offense.

To say Katie Alexander has had a power surge is an understatement.

In the past week, the Michigan’s senior catcher has fired four balls out of the park, doubling her home run total from four to eight.

Alex Storako pitched six innings in relief while striking out 15 batters and allowing zero runs.

This contest marked several other firsts in Storako’s career, including the first time she has pitched six innings without a hit and seven innings with just one hit.

Storako’s stamina would be a huge asset to the Wolverines if it were to continue into the rest of the season. With 147 innings already piled on Beaubien’s left arm, having Storako as a reliable second pitcher may be the difference between success and failure in the postseason.

The Michigan rowing team finished first in 11 of 14 races at the Big Ten Double Duo against Ohio State and Rutgers.

By the end of the day Saturday — facing the Buckeyes and Rutgers at the Big Ten Double Dual — the No. 5 Michigan rowing team had finished first in 11 of the 14 total races.

The Michigan softball team's offense needs consistency for a deep postseason run.

The Wolverines have made it clear they’ve found the offensive power to carry them through the rest of Big Ten play — a conference in a historic downturn — but with the postseason less than a month away, that might not be enough.

Sunday, April 7, 2019 - 7:28pm
Senior first baseman Alex Sobczak had three runs, two hits and three RBI in Sunday's contest against Indiana.

In Friday and Saturday’s contests, the Wolverines failed to get on the board until the third inning in both games, registering just seven runs over two days.

But, also like many of the Wolverines’ games, all Michigan needed was a spark.

Friday, April 5, 2019 - 7:11pm

With two outs on the board in the last inning of the game, sophomore left-hander Meghan Beaubien threw two pitches straight into the center of the batters box. The third ended up in the dirt, but that didn’t matter in the end as the Indiana batter had already started her swing.

With that, Beaubien was able to start and end the game with a strikeout.

The No. 23 Michigan softball team (24-10) defeated Indiana (28-10) 4-0 in the first game of this weekend’s series.

Hannah Carson hit the first home run of her collegiate career, a grand slam, against Toledo on Wednesday.

On the next pitch, Carson swung hard, sending a line drive over the right-field wall — the first home run of her collegiate career. The grand slam increased Michigan’s lead to 19.

Because the ball was so low, Carson didn’t even know whether it went out of the field.

In the first spring race, the Michigan rowing team's 1V8 boat was able to overcome Yale.

BELLEVILLE — While the No. 9 Michigan rowing team had success this fall at regattas like Head of the Charles, in this weekend’s season opener against Yale and Harvard, the Wolverines faced a new beast entirely: the spring race.
