Freshman forward Johnny Beecher was suspended by the Big Ten, a decision Mel Pearson didn't agree with.

Monday afternoon, the Big Ten announced a one-game suspension for Beecher due to his actions during a brawl that erupted against Ohio State on Saturday at Yost Ice Arena. Beecher will sit out Friday’s home game against Wisconsin, and Michigan coach Mel Pearson has clear frustrations with the decision.

Nappier blocked that shot, too. But Lockwood collected the rebound once again, wrapped around the net and got it past Nappier to lead the Michigan hockey team to a 3-2 victory over the Buckeyes (15-8-3 overall, 8-6-2 Big Ten), and continue a run that has now seen the Wolverines take 14 of 15 potential points dating back to an early-January sweep of Notre Dame.

Freshman forward Johnny Beecher said Michigan didn't play how it needed to against the NTDP.

And Saturday night at Yost Ice Arena, that seemed to be a key factor as a previously red-hot Michigan hockey team fell, 4-1, in an exhibition against the U.S. National Team Development Program (NTDP) U18 team.

Mel Pearson's positivity throughout the Michigan hockey team's early-season rut appears to be paying off.

Looking back, though, brings the necessary clarity. And it’s now crystal clear that there was truth behind Mel Pearson’s optimism during the Michigan hockey team’s early season struggles.

Michigan coach Mel Pearson is hoping that getting a second shot at familiar opponents can help spark a turnaround.

The Michigan hockey team is now in the second half of its season, and that second half implies quite a bit of preparation.

It’s now crunch time for the Wolverines. Sitting second-to-last in the conference and 32nd in the PairWise Rankings, they must prepare to fight each weekend to have any hope at an at-large NCAA Tournament bid or to get a better seed in the conference tournament.

And though the Wolverines’ power play didn’t find the same success on its other opportunity of the night, it didn’t matter. The defense and penalty kill unit stayed steady, holding the Fighting Irish empty handed from their three chances to help Michigan (8-11-2 overall, 3-7-1 Big Ten) notch a 3-0 victory.

The Michigan hockey team faces a challenge in Notre Dame goaltender Cale Morris this weekend.

It’s fairly clear what to expect from a game in which one side is slated to play perhaps its easiest opponent of the season while the other side plays its toughest.

That was the case heading into Saturday afternoon at Crisler Center, as the No. 14 Michigan men’s basketball team (9-3) prepared to face Presbyterian (2-10). Things turned out just as expected, as the Wolverines claimed a 86-44 victory.

Heading into Friday night’s game against No. 6 Penn State (11-5-0 overall, 6-3-0 Big Ten), the supposed narrative was clear for the Michigan hockey team (6-9-2, 2-6-1). The Wolverines would need to watch out for the Nittany Lions’ high-powered offense, which entered the weekend scoring the second most goals per game in the nation.

And yet as things unfolded, it ended up being Michigan’s offense that shined, as it led the team to a 4-1 victory over Penn State at Yost Ice Arena.
