The Rotary Club of Ann Arbor has gifted a Universal Access Playground at Gallup Park.

The Universal Access Playground at Gallup Park, a playground for children of all ages and abilities, was a centennial gift from the Rotary Club of Ann Arbor to the city in 2016, meant to help build a more inclusive city. The club added an Interactive Wildlife Exhibit to the park this October.

In the exhibit, children are encouraged to explore the biodiversity of Michigan through three themed play areas: woodland, river and prairie.

Healthcare workers at Michigan Medicine have been asked to work even if they have a close contact with COVID-19.

As COVID-19 numbers rise across the nation, and with hospitals around the country nearing capacity, health care workers at hospitals throughout Michigan — including at Michigan Medicine — are being asked to come to work even if they have been exposed to someone who recently tested positive for COVID-19.

The University of Michigan recognized the three recipients of the Distinguished University Professorships at a virtual ceremony Friday evening.

The Distinguished University Professorships, one of the University of Michigan’s highest honors recognizing senior faculty who have positively contributed to academia, was established in 1947 by the Board of Regents.

University of Michigan alum Adam Mael created a replica of the Diag using more than 30,000 Lego pieces as a tribute of his love for the University.

After three years of building and more than 30,000 Lego pieces, University of Michigan alum Adam Mael placed the final block on his proportional Lego replica of the University’s iconic Diag and Central Campus. 

The model, featuring the Harlan Hatcher Graduate Library, the University of Michigan Museum of Art and the Chemistry Building among many other structures, is a tribute to the 2011 graduate’s love of Lego bricks and the University.

Jason Owen-Smith, executive director of the Institute for Research on Innovation and Science, gave a talk Wednesday on the severe effects of COVID-19 on university research operations and funding. 

Owen-Smith began the seminar by discussing the significance of universities’ research.

“Universities are a form of social insurance for an unknown future,” Owen-Smith said.

University of Michigan researchers and health care experts recently published a study on the long-term effects of COVID-19 based on data from various Michigan hospitals. 

The research team, consisting of physicians and a statistician, collected data through interviews with previously hospitalized COVID-19 patients as well as hospital data compiled by medical staff.

Literati Bookstore is temporarily shutting down its curbside and in-store operations.

Literati Bookstore, an Ann Arbor staple on East Washington Street, is temporarily shutting down its curbside and in-store operations, according to a statement on the bookstore’s website. The change went into effect Saturday.

According to an email from Literati staff to customers on Saturday, the store “will continue sending books direct-to-home from (its) distributor.”

The Ann Arbor District Library is set to resume its contactless pickup service on Dec. 9.

The Ann Arbor District Library is set to resume its contactless pickup service on Dec. 9 following the library’s closure of its five branches on Nov. 15. 

Slots to reserve pickup times will open on Monday, Nov. 30. Pickup service will be available at all five AADL locations, with library lobbies being open for pickup from noon until 8 p.m., seven days a week.
