We’re four months into the year now, a time by which the majority of people have shed the shackles of their New Year’s resolutions. One common resolution that’s probably been abandoned by now is losing weight, whether it’s five pounds or 50. I’ve made countless New Year’s resolutions, but I’ve never explicitly made one about weight loss. Like so many others, it seems that my adolescence has been characterized by an ongoing and increasingly fraught battle with my own skin. It was an all-out offense against an enemy that I wasn’t even really sure I knew. My sophomore year of high school, a guest speaker came to talk to us in our health class. She put a Hershey’s Kiss on each of our desks and told us that we could eat it whenever we wanted: now, later, or even with lunch! At this juncture, I opened mine up and popped it right into my mouth.

When I heard about the leaked audio from Louis C.K.’s big comeback set (or second comeback, if showing up unannounced at New York’s Comedy Cellar is considered a comeback), I labeled it in my brain as one more thing not to interact with.
