I love ghosts. I love ghost tours, paranormal investigation shows, rumors and stories of hauntings, attributing something falling off my shelf to a ghostly presence; I love it all. To be perfectly clear, I’m not talking about horror. I have enormous respect for the horror genre and its cultural significance, but I do not derive the same thrill and enjoyment from consuming horror media that die-hard fans do.

In my immigration law class this week, we watched a video about the Bracero Program, in which U.S. agriculture industrialists essentially recruited men from Mexico to do “stoop labor,” or the more undesirable farming jobs. The video was obviously a piece of propaganda created by the California Growers Council, attempting to assert the legitimacy of the Bracero Program.

My sophomore year of high school, a guest speaker came to talk to us in our health class. She put a Hershey’s Kiss on each of our desks and told us that we could eat it whenever we wanted: now, later, or even with lunch! At this juncture, I opened mine up and popped it right into my mouth.

When I heard about the leaked audio from Louis C.K.’s big comeback set (or second comeback, if showing up unannounced at New York’s Comedy Cellar is considered a comeback), I labeled it in my brain as one more thing not to interact with.
