About 35 people gathered on the steps of the Rackham Graduate School Thursday evening to hold a vigil for recent hate crimes — in particular, in remembrance of the murder of Indian immigrant Srinivas Kuchibhotla in Olathe, Kan.

Former President Barack Obama and current Gov. Rick Snyder are favoring the Michigan basketball teams in each of their respective NCAA tournament brackets, as Obama predicts the Wolverines will reach the Elite Eight and Snyder believes Michigan will win the National Championship.

The Obama Foundation tweeted out Obama’s picks for the men’s and women’s NCAA tournaments, in which he predicts North Carolina will win the men’s tournament and the University of Connecticut will win the women’s.

The University of Michigan is slated to receive an overall 2.5 percent increase in funding — a 2.4 percent increase for UM-Ann Arbor, 3.1 percent for UM-Dearborn and 2.8 percent for UM-Flint — as a part of Gov. Rick Snyder’s recommended budget for the 2018 fiscal year.

bulletin sent out by the University of Michigan Division of Public Safety and Security announced the investigation of an unknown man trying to lure a 10-year-old girl into his vehicle in the Northwood 46 parking lot at 1400 McIntyre Dr. at 8:15 a.m. on Thursday.

According to the bulletin, the man was driving a four-door black car and motioned for the child to enter his vehicle before she immediately ran away.

Panhellenic Peer Educators speak at the Panhellenic Association Greek Life Speak Out, a forum and safe space for survivors of sexual violence, at the Union on Thursday.

The Panhellenic Association at the University of Michigan partnered with the University’s Sexual Assault Prevention and Awareness Center to host the second annual Greek Life Speak Out at the Pendleton Room of the Union on Thursday.

In front of a full-capacity audience of about 250 people, survivors of sexual assault came forward to speak about their experiences in an open-forum setting. Women spoke about instances of sexual assault they have experienced within and outside the Greek life system or beyond the University.

Gretchen Whitmer, former Democratic minority leader in the Michigan state Senate and lecturer at the Ford School of Public Policy, addressed the University of Michigan’s chapter of College Democrats Thursday night about her candidacy for Michigan governor in 2018.

Whitmer officially filed paperwork for the upcoming gubernatorial race in January, becoming the first candidate to officially enter.
