Childhood friends can be the coolest friends. Take Hotel Garuda, for example: the DJ/producer duo first met in middle school in Indonesia and reconnected through Facebook years later, much to the delight of listeners worldwide. Members Manila Killa (Chris Gavino) and Candle Weather (Aseem Mangaokar) started making music together in January 2014, experimenting with a range of deep house, future pop and tropical sounds.

A super strong remix game has gotten them tons of attention, most recently for their revamped version of kiiara’s “Feels.” With over a million listens on SoundCloud since it was released just three months ago, the remix is representative of Hotel Garuda’s past success and predicted accomplishments for the future.

Interestingly, Hotel Garuda began as a side project for Gavino, who’s also a founding member of music label Moving Castle Collective and an OWSLA-released producer. Mangaokar suggested they collaborate while he was still in school at Occidental djing house parties, and the two began receiving requests for official Hotel Garuda remixes soon after. Currently, they’ve taken a break from remixing to focus on making some highly anticipated original work.

This Friday, Hotel Garuda comes to Populux as part of their Lost in Motion tour with Amtrac (Caleb Cornett). A master remixer in his own right, Cornett’s most recent EP offers a cool new take on classic house, with the addition of his own vocals that make his songs both thoughtful and club friendly. Check out the Amtrac & Hotel Garuda Lost In Motion Tour Mix to get a taste of what Friday night has in store.
