Viewpoints

The Michigan Daily also accepts longer opinion submissions from readers known as “viewpoints,” which typically range from 600 to 650 words. Viewpoints can be submitted online or by e-mail to opinion@michigandaily.com or can be arranged by e-mailing an editor at opinion@michigandaily.com. We ask that submissions be sent exclusively to The Daily. Previously published pieces will not be considered for publication.

The Daily reserves the right to edit viewpoints for grammar, length, style, clarity and accuracy, and will not print any letter containing statements that cannot be verified. It also reserves the right to publish the piece with a relevant illustration. If editors make major changes to our piece, an editor will contact you seeking approval of the changes.

Viewpoints must be signed by their author or authors. In general, The Daily does not allow groups or organizations to collectively author a piece. Instead, The Daily notes the primary author(s) of the piece, their group affiliations and, if applicable, that they are speaking on behalf of a group or organization.

Though The Daily accepts viewpoints responding to issues raised by articles or opinion pieces that previously appeared in The Daily, we prefer that these be submitted as letters to the editor. The Daily reserves the right to publish any viewpoint as a letter to the editor instead.
