Andrea Fischer Newman
Regent Andrea Fischer Newman, a Republican from Ann Arbor, was first elected to the University's Board of Regent's in 1994 and re-elected in 2002.
Newman received a law degree from the George Washington University National Law Center in 1983 after graduating with honors from the University of Michigan with an bachelor's degree in 1979.
Newman currently serves as senior vice president for government affairs at Delta Airlines. Prior to joining Delta Airlines, Newman was a senior partner at the law firm of Miller, Canfield, Paddock and Stone. She is also a former employee of the law firm of Patton, Boggs and has served as Special Counsel to the Assistant Secretary of Defense for Acquisition and Logistics and as Deputy Assistant to the Vice President.
In addition to serving as a University regent, Newman is a member of the Industry Affairs Committee of the International Air Transport Association and a member of the Knight Foundation Commission on Intercollegiate Athletics. She also serves on the board of the American Council of Young Political Leaders and is a vice president of the Detroit Economic Club. Newman is a former member of the Federal Service Impasses Panel, the National Board of the Fund for the Improvement of Postsecondary Education and the National Advisory Committee on Institutional Quality and Integrity.
